EARLY LIFE & CHILDHOOD
Sasha Luss was born on the 6th of June 1992 in Magadan, Russia. She relocated to Moscow with her family at a young age.
As a kid, she had no flair for modeling. She loved to write and dance. She partook in some ballet competitions but her dancing career path stopped following an ankle injury.
At one of her ballet competition before her injury, some random guy took note of her and walked up to her mother asking if she were a model.
This inspired her mother to send her photos to all the New York Modeling agencies. She then took her to a modeling agency in Moscow (IQ Models) through the intervention of her Russian fashion model friend, where Sasha Luss was signed in 2006 at the age of 14.
In 2008, Sasha Luss ran her very first fashion show for Alena Akhmadullina at Moscow’s Spring/Summer Fashion Week and was featured in multiple editorials of L’Officiel Russia and Vogue Russia and this quickly shot her to fame in the Russian fashion industry.
In the bid to explore the outside world, she signed with DNA Model Management which flew her to New York and Europe where she walked in shows for designers like Antonio Marras and DKNY but had no spotlight there. This necessitated her return to Russia to complete her education.
She then decided to sign with the Elite Model Management in Paris and Women Management in Milan as a development model and finally left her mother agency, IQ Models to join Avant Models in 2011.
She had her spotlight when she did an advertisement for a Russian demi-couturier, Bohemique in 2011 where she caught the attention of Karl Lagerfield who was so impressed by her presentation and decided to cast her in his Chanel Pre-Fall/Fall/Winter 2012 shows.
The following year, she was requested by Dior to walk exclusively in their Spring/Summer 2013 show. By fall/winter of 2013, she had walked in 58 fashion shows for the world’s most prestigious brands like Valentino, Prada, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, and Givenchy. She was honored with the “Model of the year” award by Glamour Russia in 2013.
She then upgraded her looks by bleaching her hair platinum blonde, and this caught the fancy of designers and other models. By Spring/Summer of 2014, she had walked in another 53 fashion shows further bringing her into the limelight as one of the most in-demand models of the moment.
Karl Lagerfield hired her for Lanvin and Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2014 Advertisement campaign. She became the new face of “Dior Beauty“ shortly after the ad campaign.
She also starred in the 2014 Fall/Winter Versace Jeans Advertisement campaign.
She featured in the LA Perla’s Fall/Winter 2016 ad campaign alongside Valery Kaufman and Liu Wen in 2016.
She also featured in Olivier Rousteing’s All-Star Cast for the Balmain Fall/Winter 2016 campaign alongside Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Francisco Lachowski, Joan Smalls, Jon Kortajarena, Jourdan Dunn and Alessandra Ambrosio in 2016.
She then transferred from her modeling agency, Women management to IMG Models.
She caught the attention of French director, Luc Besson, due to her international presence in modeling and was given a minor role as Princess Lïhio-Minaa in his adaptation of the comic, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets in 2017.
She also starred in his next action thriller film, Anna where she played the role of a Russian spy who goes undercover as a model in 2019.
